Yes, I have commitment issues when it comes to blogs, but this was a known factor. The etc.tech has been moved a total of two times, off the top of my head and possibly many times more. The problem was that I could not find a place that would fulfill all the requirements I needed for a blog – which was to be simple, clean, and have pretty layouts that was easily accessible. For that reason and many more – all the blogs (sans my personal stuff) have been moved over to WordPress.
The new blogs:
After noticing a troubling flood of Project Phoenix posts not to mention those I am currently drafting, I have decided that Project Phoenix, referred to as ((phnx)), should have it's own blog in order to keep things in perspective. Or lack thereof. I was thinking about creating a community and flooding posts there but instead, I created a whole new one. The links were updated on the website. And so I present:
Project Phoenix is all about the challenges but at some point I have to make them clear so that potential victims participants can have a more elaborate idea of what is going on.
The three week challenge is only for those that feel like taking that on. It was a personal challenge (one that I have finished) and one that Leah will be starting on her birthday.
The collaborative challenge or the original proposition is for everyone who wants to participate. Reload, Remix, Revision is the way to think about it. This is the ultimate goal of the project which is to start working off one another; using the artwork provided to teach and learn new things.
New challenges! These are not really new, but I am looking for people to work on these types of things if they can. I've already spoken to a few people about taking on certain ones themselves.
- Photowalks. If you're not familiar with the concept, in short photowalks are when you grab your camera and take it for a walk, taking random shots along the way. If this seems like something up your alley, then go for it. I will also be linking blogs if requested so they do not necessarily need to be emailed.
- Duo Photowalks. I've already explained photowalks, but another concept I had slightly varies. Grab another person or a bunch of people and take shots all along the way. Don't stop one another or warn one another about what you'll be shooting. After sifting through your pictures (remember to save a set for yourself) send them over to whoever you went with. Then have them alter it anyway they please and vice versa. Then set the pictures up side by side meaning the original you took and what they did to it. This sort of artwork once launched will be set up on blogs rather than the website itself. For this concept, I'll be using the other etc.tech blog and anyone else is invited to as well (just ask).
More to come when my brain regains normal functioning capabilities.
Today Selena submitted the forty-third piece to Project Phoenix, which has made me quite ecstatic. I was thinking about creating a "newsletter" for those who have been following and participating in the project, but I'm not positive about this move. Anyhow, I am still hoping that more people will participate but I am grateful to those who are involved. So a big thank you to all of you!
1. So you're asking other people for images/pieces of art/quotes and you're going to make a website with a collage of these contents?
No, everyone's work will be listed under their name (and company name, if applicable) separately. If you send one image than only that image will appear separately under your name and if you send more, you will see a collage of your work. The idea is not for everyone to fill their page but rather to draw inspiration from one another; to spur creativity.2. How did this project come about?
There are many issues that could be framed as culprits for this one however I would personally blame my pirate tendencies. Or that unbridled creativity in me that likes to see how well others work with one another without actually having to work with one another. Plus, it is a year overdue.
3. Who do I send this to?
You send it to Captain Black Charity Eneat (Aleisha Tannen) at etc.project[at]gmail[dot]com, with your name and company if applicable. You do not have to address it to her but you do have to replace the appropriate symbols and remember to put your name and if it is your first time, remember to pick your number.
4. Will there be a resource list or
do I have to provide one?
Each artist will be asked to
send their own list of resources that will be listed on their own
page if applicable.
5. What do you mean by your company? Does this mean the company I am currently working with?
By company I mean by artist affiliation, if you want to be associated with such. You do not need to provide a company (that deals with art or something similar) however for the people who own companies, this would an outlet.
6. Can I send old work in?
Sure, especially during the beginning though it would be nice that as the project progresses that you send in work that draws inspiration from others.
7. What kind of work can I send in?
Anything that includes scribbles, to poetry, music, writing samples, quips, interviews, anything that you created are willing to display. We'll find a way to get it up, do not worry.
8. I have no access to the internet but I want to contribute. How can I?
You can access a public computer with an internet connection. Just kidding. If you are a writer or your medium has to do with the sort, such as you want to contribute an interview, poem, quote, etc. then you can ask someone else to send it in, if not myself.
9. I want to sing. (Or dance or whatever else that falls in this realm).
If it can be recorded and distributed via the Internet then you can send that in as well. Same rules apply though, I will need your name and anyone else involved.
10. How long will this project be running?
Projected time before it stabilizes will be three months. I know that does not answer the question however the basic answer is that as long as the website is up and running (barring any unexpected downtime) the project will remain functional.
11. So is it my work or your work?
Your work.
12. Was I selected or did I just get sucked into this by accident?
The universe wanted you to participate, so work that out with yourself.
13. Wait, I’m confused, what is the name of this project?
Project Code: Red Moon; Project Phoenix; Artist's Playground or Design Styles. No project is complete without at least two names,
13. Compensation?
It's volunteer work. So you get to feel good and gain experience and inspiration.
14. Still confused! What the hell?!
A “fleshier” list of frequently asked questions now exists at the website! Go check it out at Project Phoenix.
Rather than being nothing short of over ambitious I propose a new art project. In order to keep my creativity up to par as well as my sanity which has been running around without vocation, I shall plug my uselessness into something resembling usefulness, though not entirely. Rather than dedicating myself to three months of contributing something everyday, I shall contribute for three weeks straight. Or at the very less three days or something of the sort as since creativity has it's own way of working. Everyday (this is the actual part worth reading, now pay attention) a new piece to the new project.
The red moon has risen and it's calling all you artists, designers, poets, photographers, and the lot out. What are we doing? Everyday or every other day, or whenever you feel like it, send me a piece of your work I will post it at my website. Which means do not forget your name and your company (of you have one). The point is create a place whereby creativity can come to fester, drawing upon a synergistic force. Challenge yourself to come up with a new line or a new piece of art every day (if even that much). The new site will reflect new art or whatever when it comes in. I'm asking you participate regardless of how good or bad you think you are. Everyone sees everything differently so show others what you've been seeing the entire time.
This is an etc.tech project and it's called Project Phoenix and you've been expecting it. Please get others involved as well. Email your stuff to etc.project[at]gmail[dot]com. You can also read the FAQ.

Ever since I got Noehalani from the Build A Bear workshop I have been fawning over the kimono which is sold out online and not really a trip I want to make to the shop for various reasons that does not concern the actual bear. Plus I grew annoyed glancing her from time to time in that gray shirt that I initially got for another bear. Thus I went on a search in my closet to find a small shirt that I could alter for her. First I grabbed a very pink shirt which greatly disturbed me but I started to analyze how to change it. After deciding that I would create a makeshift kimono, I tried to find other colours that would match with it. Which eventually led me to change the base all together.
It took three shirts to get the right colour combination (there's white by the collar) but I settled on two old favourites, the burgundy and the rose coloured. I used as minimal of the rose as I could in order to use it for another shirt for her, which I will be making later.
This one has a lot of mistakes because one should not sew while trying to watch a Korean movie with subtitles. The major mistakes were really on the right but it's fine with me. Furthermore because this was done entirely by hand (no, I do not use machines), I did not bother to hem the sleeves especially since I know that material and it does not pull.
This will suffice till I get her the proper one from Build A Bear or get someone to send me one from Japan. ;D
Recently I pulled out my old incense burner and secured some melting wax tarts, which are basically melting wax without the wicks loaded with scent. I bought a few bags for Mariel and myself, though she had a mix from two different makers I got myself a few bags from Katie. A few days later after burning them, it struck me that I still had a whole pack of soy wax that I could make into tarts. After a lucky trip to Michael's, I got a small packet of four bakery scents and soap mold.
Not bad for my first attempt as far as looks. I have yet to burn some for myself because... well here was one of my "damnit" moments. I had initially gone to Michael's to get an electric tart burner and they did not have any. I saw a regular burner with three tarts and thought it was a pretty good deal but I did not need it. When I got home to start up my own burner, I discovered that mine was leaking and had to take my mother's. So the sole burner in the house is still burning off Katie's melts, which are fantastic.
Depending on how they burn and what the scent it like, I may give some away (that is if they are good) or maybe even sell some (which is not likely).
These are the last box and tin projects that I will be doing for a while, I think it is just about time to start trying different mediums. Initially I intended to create six boxes each of which would represent a different element, however after these four I started the air set and realized that I did not want to continue on, so I only got through five.
The ones pictured are the Earth and Water sets, two each. There is only one Air box, which I did not take a picture of. The first two are of the Earth set which was part of Mariel and Vani's Christmas gift (along with the candles I wrote about before). Vani's has sand whereby Mariel's has a mixture of tea within it. The boxes are easily emptied in case they would like to use them for anything else. The second set is for Cathy and Tabitha and along the sides and the bottom I used a shiny material (or to put it in another way, I cut up a few discs) to represent the water. Everything else is removable as since I wanted to stress that the candle ought not be burned inside of the boxes. The Air box which is not pictured had a small frame in order to create depth within it and a painting at the bottom.
I never had any intention of doing Fire boxes and I am not sure why. Let's just leave it at that.
